Introduction to international business and management

We offer study places at the economics faculty at VNUK. As a cultural studies student at VNUK, you will take six courses at the university, which all run in parallel. These are courses that belong to the second or third year of a bachelor in International Business and Management. The first year at a Vietnamese university is considered to be at the same level as a Scandinavian upper secondary school, similar to the American university system.

The courses we offer will therefore be at the same level as a bachelor's degree in Scandinavia. Below you will see an overview of the six subjects you will follow:

  • International Marketing
  • International Business
  • Introduction to financial accounting
  • Organizational behaviour
  • Global environment of business
  • Foundation of Business Analytics

Teachers

All lectures will be given by skilled lecturers employed at VNUK. Most are Vietnamese with education or work experience from Europe and/or the USA, but there are also some foreign lecturers. VNUK has an explicit international and English-language profile and English is the primary working language. The lecturers are all fluent in English and have a high level of language competence, but it may still take some time to get used to the Vietnamese accent, in the same way that Vietnamese people will have a bit of an uphill battle with Jens Stoltenberg's English. You will probably have different lecturers in all subjects.

This is how the semester proceeds

Our students are considered exchange students at the university and follow the usual course of study of six months. Studies begin in January and end with exams in May and June.

Studies at university level in Vietnam are generally more intensive than in Norway and this will be noticeable by the fact that a lot of work is required beyond lectures and personal reading in the form of preparing group presentations and other homework. The course involves daily teaching from Monday to Friday, and in addition you must expect that some lectures will be given on Saturdays.

Da Nang city

Da Nang is Vietnam's third largest city, with 1.2 million inhabitants. The city is therefore far smaller than the big cities of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, which both have around 10 million inhabitants - but can still offer everything that is expected of a big city.

The unique combination of a big city, one of Vietnam's most beautiful beaches and easy access to nature has meant that Da Nang has been named one of the country's best cities to live in. Here you will find a rich selection of bars, restaurants, gyms, concert venues, cinemas and shopping, and like most cities in Vietnam, Da Nang has a proud food culture. You will find the specialties My Quang, Cau Lau and Banh Xeo on every street corner.

The city council in Da Nang works actively to establish itself as a hub for international companies, and wants to present itself as a growing city with green economic development. In addition, tourism is one of the most important economic activities in the area, which also characterizes the economics studies at VNUK and provides an interesting insight into the economic model of countries that depend on tourism as a source of income.

As an economics student in Da Nang, you get to experience a city in rapid development - where Michelin restaurants and informal street vendors fight for your wallet.

VNUK

VNUK is a department at the public University of Da Nang. One of the unique things about VNUK is that all teaching takes place in English, and it is therefore easy to get to know the Vietnamese students and student life on campus even as a Scandinavian exchange student.

VNUK is considered a prestigious university, and the international profile means that the study environment is characterized by ambitious students who aim for international careers, or who want to work with one of the many foreign companies that are now establishing themselves in Da Nang and elsewhere in Vietnam.

The studies

VNUK's biggest focus areas are finance and technology. They offer studies in marketing, international business, tourism, nanotechnology, biomedicine, computer technology and chemistry.

As VNUK has an official partnership with Great Britain, all courses provide the European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) in addition to Vietnamese credits. A semester with Kulturstudier and VNUK will give you 30 ECTS, i.e. 30 credits, in international economics. This corresponds to one semester of full-time studies.

The students

Spring 2025 is the first time these studies are available to Scandinavian students. A small group of Scandinavian students share a dormitory in Da Nang near the campus. You follow ordinary teaching in English together with Vietnamese and international students. Be prepared that the work pressure and activity level may be higher than what you are used to from home.

You also have access to community and activities with our development studies students who live 40 minutes away in Hoi An.
