Sustainability and conservation in Costa Rica

Costa Rica

When you study Spanish with us in Costa Rica, you also get an optional subject that looks at how the wonderful nature in Costa Rica is managed. The subject makes up 1/4 of the semester and deals with politics and administration that ensures long-term sustainability. Based on theory and experiences, the students work with issues related to climate change; protection and restoration of ecosystems, and how local businesses can operate sustainably and profitably.

In Costa Rica we offer Spanish studies on three levels, from beginners to advanced. In addition you take a course in Sustainability and Conservation in Costa Rica. The studies are offered in collaboration with Universidad Internacional San Isidro Labrador, Costa Rica.

Argentina

This course dives straight into Argentina´s economic, cultural, social and political history from pre-colonial times until the last decades of the 20th century. The students will develop an understanding of the most important processes that have shaped the historical development, international power relations and the strong ties to the other Latin American countries.

This subject provides an introduction to Argentinian literature. The course is offered in combination with Spanish to obtain 30 credits. Our partner for this course is Universidad Nacional de San Martin in Buenos Aires.

Development studies 2 30 ECTS credits

Ghana

This is an offer for students from development or social science studies. The program is ideal as a second semester following development studies 1 in Vietnam. The academic focus in on Africa and Ghana and includes fieldwork in small groups, studying local conditions. It is a full semester program, with 30 ECTS, and is offered on partnership with Oslo Metropolitan University - OsloMet.

Development Studies 1 30 ECTS credits

Vietnam

Development Studies 1 gives an interdisciplinary introduction to North/South issues and the situation of the countries in the global south. Furthermore you will gain first hand knowlegde by studying in a country that has been through substantial reforms. Development studies 1 is a full semester program, 30 ECTS, and is offered in cooperation with Oslo Metropolitan University - OsloMet.

Global environmental studies 30 ECTS credits

Costa Rica

This course gives a social science introduction to the most important fields within global environmental studies in general and Central America in particular. It digs into the causes and dynamics of environmental challenges and dynamics, and different perspectives on management of natural resources. It is a full semester course, 30 ECTS, and is offered in cooperation with Oslo Metropolitan University - OsloMet.

Next semester starts on September 2 and February 10.

Peace and conflict studies 30 ECTS credits

Nepal

Study global matters in an interdisciplinary setting. The course provides education on contemporary issues such as terrorism, war, violent and social conflicts, Human Rights, humanitarian aid, refugee crisis, social inequality, peace and peacebuilding.

Combinations

Study Development Studies an entire academic year combining Vietnam and Ghana! First you study development studies 1 in Vietnam. Then you backpack your way through Asia and Africa to Ghana where you are studying Development Studies 2. After completing the academic year you have the opportunity to apply to the second year of the bachelor’s degree program in Development Studies at the Oslo Metropolitan University.
