"The best part about teaching is meeting so many amazing students!"
Spanish teacher Yilliam Valverde talks about the Spanish programme in Costa Rica!

My name is Yilliam Valverde, and I am a Spanish teacher for university students in Costa Rica and teach Spanish as a foreign language.
I work with academic coordination of Spanish at the university UISIL, and have coordinated the course for Cultural Studies in Costa Rica since it started in 2019.

In addition, I am responsible for promoting cultural and social activities, with the aim of helping students gain a better understanding of the Spanish language and engage with our culture.
Our goal is that the experience of living and studying in Costa Rica will be extraordinary and unforgettable for the students!
UISIL offers excellent facilities surrounded by nature, where it is possible to hear birdsong all day long, and occasionally see other animals.

On the first day at UISIL, students get acquainted with the facilities and are welcomed with an introductory activity that includes traditional and popular dances, such as cumbia and creole swing.
The day after, they get to experience a welcome party with Latin American music. The first period in the program is thus full of joy and cultural entertainment.
Students who come to UISIL will be able to speak, write, and read in Spanish after a semester here, and those who already have knowledge of the language will have the opportunity to improve it. A positive attitude and the desire to learn are important.

This program has many advantages, such as excellent facilities, experienced teachers, human quality, cultural activities, and the opportunity to enjoy the beautiful nature of Costa Rica.
The desire to learn and discipline is crucial to take advantage of the opportunities that Kulturstudier offers.
Sustainability and nature conservation is a topic with many excursions to, among other things, coffee and cocoa plantations and indigenous territories. So the whole experience is an adventure for those who like to visit rural settings and pristine nature.
For me, the best part of teaching is meeting so many amazing students! I also love being able to share the language I speak with them, but what pleases me the most is hearing the students speak Spanish after completing the course.
