Student life and travel

One of the best things about being a student is the significant control you get to have over your daily life.

Outside of class and studying, you're free to explore your host country, volunteer, try new sports, take part in courses, and enjoy activities with fellow students or local friends.

Regardless of where you study, we can promise a semester full of engaging experiences.

Freedom and responsibility

As a student, you have greater responsibility for your own learning but also more freedom in how you conduct your studies than in high school.

We consider cultural experiences during leisure time to be a key part of learning.

Besides the activities, workshops, and excursions we organize, you are free to explore independently during afternoons and weekends. You'll also have a long weekend in the middle of the study period that allows for longer excursions.

While studies can be demanding, with good habits and consistent effort, you'll have enough free time to enjoy.

Exciting activities

Paragliding, yoga, mountain hikes, music festivals, cooking classes—the opportunities for fun and educational activities are endless.

Each study country provides numerous chances to try new things. Whether you’ve always wanted to learn to surf or dance the tango, you have the chance to check off items on your bucket list.

Many students also volunteer, with our local staff able to connect you with reputable organizations.

Travel after the semester?

All Kulturstudier students share at least one thing in common: a love for travel! Besides taking shorter excursions during the semester, you can explore other countries in the region once classes finish.

If you're considering backpacking after the semester but need travel companions, you're not alone.

Many students arrive at their study location without a set itinerary but with a strong desire to travel. Most do not know each other prior to the semester, but often they come together to plan trips as they get to know one another.

Feel free to ask us for travel recommendations near your study country.

Highlights

Rice fields

One of the distinctive aspects of Hoi An is its agriculture, with expansive rice fields located right on the outskirts of the city. Cycle around these fields to gain insight into the everyday life of many residents in Hoi An, observing where and how the vegetables and herbs you are served are harvested. Among the rice fields in An My, you will also discover a yoga studio and cafes where you can relax and enjoy the sea breeze.

Hoi An Ancient Town

Hoi An Ancient Town holds World Heritage status for good reason. Narrow streets are illuminated by an array of colorful lanterns, and tourist attractions and Western-oriented restaurants coexist alongside local businesses, historic wooden houses, and temples. There is nothing quite like a nighttime stroll through the old town, where you are guaranteed to be enchanted by the magical atmosphere along the Thu Bon River.

Cerro Chirripó

Cerro Chirripó, Costa Rica's highest mountain, reaches an impressive 3,820 meters above sea level. Though the hike is demanding, it is truly rewarding, offering breathtaking views at the top.

Football match at La Bombonera

As a student in Buenos Aires, you can't miss the opportunity to experience the electrifying atmosphere at La Boca Juniors' home ground, La Bombonera. The intense passion Argentines have for football is truly contagious, even for those not particularly interested in sports.

The Casa Rosada - the Pink House - is the presidential palace of Argentina. This magnificent building is one of the country's most recognizable, thanks in large part to its unusual color scheme. The palace also houses a museum displaying artifacts belonging to past presidents.

Kakum national park

In this vast national park, elephants roam among the lush vegetation. Take a hike across the suspension bridge (if you're not afraid of heights), and sleep in a treetop hut under the stars.
