– When I decided to go to Argentina, I had already been studying for two years. But I had always wanted to take a year off to travel and experience the world.

I had taken Spanish in high school, so I wanted to learn more Spanish so that I could actually use the language for something! I also wanted to experience something other than the European culture, and thought that Argentina seemed like a very exciting place.

– I called Kulturstudier and learned about the opportunities to study in Spanish-speaking countries. After that conversation, I decided to choose Argentina and signed up.

Once I had secured the spot, it was just a matter of following their "recipe" for how to obtain a visa and all other practical matters concerning what was needed to go to Argentina. It was mostly a fairly simple process.

Most people who travel with Kulturstudier don't know any of the other students beforehand. Many former students highlight the sense of community and the friendships formed within the student group as the highlight of their stay.

– One of the best things about traveling with Kulturstudier was the people in the study programme. Many of those I met through the programme are now my closest friends.

It was a bit like a folk high school abroad, but without many rules.

– I feel like I improved a lot in Spanish over the semester. I also love history, so learning about Argentine history was very exciting to me. The teachers were skilled and cared more about us learning as much as possible, rather than the results of tests and exams.

Aside from the people and the teaching, the city itself is absolutely fantastic. Buenos Aires is one of the coolest cities I've been to.

There are plenty of restaurants and bars and much more to explore. You can have an immense amount of fun on a bar crawl in this city.

Most often there were some strange things happening around that one could observe and try to understand the local culture!

Argentina offers much more than Buenos Aires, which in itself can be explored endlessly. You have time to go on excursions on the weekends, and many also choose to travel in Argentina and Latin America after their studies:

– During the semester, we traveled to Iguazu, which everyone should do. We also went to the wine region of Mendoza, where we got to taste some of the finest red wine in the world (at least I think so!).

– We also got to ride horses along with a really nice family in the Andes mountains. Here I also had the best barbecue (asado) I've ever tasted in my life.

Argentinians are a very open people, always nice to strangers. I never felt that I was in any kind of danger and had fun all the time. Everyone else I talked to has also fallen in love with this country and its culture.
